Temperatures are forecast to continue being high this weekend, so whether you are in a team in the National Touch Series or just playing in a local social tournament, here are some top tips to help you stay healthy in the heat.
- Find shade regularly and/or bring an umbrella
- Bring a cooler full of ice
- Bring cotton shirts to wear between games, to allow kit to dry
- If you have ice and taken kit off between games then it is worth getting tops wet in the cold for the next match
- Remember to ensure all your players and referees eat and drink. When it is hot they will not feel like eating very much, but this is important
- Teams need to ensure that if they are using electrolytes they have sufficient sodium and potassium in them, ie not carbohydrate tablets. This does not replace eating
- Hydration - Check colour of urine the evening before and throughout the day. It should remain light in colour
- Always remember your high factor sunscreen!
