Scholars set for international action

More teams will be representing England this weekend, this time in the European Federation of Touch Championship Permit tournament.

Men's and Women's England Scholars squads have headed to Fonteney-Le-Comte near La Rochelle for a long weekend of action against teams from across Europe, including France, Spain, Germany, Guernsey, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

As with the recent EFT Premiership Permit, the Championship Permit tournament is about increasing the pool of players with experience of international competition, and as such England is the only country to be sending squads solely made up of students, who all earned their selection through their performances in the 2016/17 University Touch Series.

The tournament is made up of a round-robin phase on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, where each team plays each other once, with knockout games on Sunday to decide the overall finishing places.
