England Youth teams facing challenging trip to France

Hot on the heels of the most successful Touch World Cup in England’s history, the baton has been passed to the six Youth teams who will be heading to Vichy this weekend for the 2024 European Junior Touch Championships.

The venue, Parc Omnisports du Vichy, is a familiar one for many of the players and coaches, having hosted the 2023 European Touch Championships and 2022 European Junior Touch Championships.

This year’s JTC will have nine nations represented, including Lebanon for the first time, whose Mixed 15 and Boys 18 teams will be hoping to emulate their Men’s Open compatriots who took home the bronze medal from the World Cup.

For their part, England won five Golds and two Silvers at the 2023 Atlantic Youth Touch Cup and three of the four categories at the 2022 JTC.

So this year’s teams have a hard act to follow.

The Mixed 15 open their campaign against Lebanon on Friday morning, before playing France, Ireland, Cayman Islands, Scotland, Belgium and Wales. The first and second-placed teams in the pool will face off in the final on Sunday afternoon.

The Mixed 18 face Scotland on the live stream field on Friday morning, with Ireland, Cayman Islands, Wales, Italy and Belgium providing the opposition during the rest of the weekend. The top four teams go into the semi-finals on Sunday morning.

The Boys 18 have France, Ireland, Lebanon and Wales in their group, along with England M20 and France M20. The top three finishers go automatically into the semi-finals, with fourth and fifth having a play-off.

The Girls 18 play France and Wales, with the top two after two sets of round-robin matches playing each other for a third time for the Gold medal. England W20 and France W20 are also in this group.

In addition to their games against their 18s counterparts, the respective M20 and W20 from France and England will have a three-Test series across Saturday and Sunday.
