Green Challenge Trophy success

This year, as part of your National Touch Series entry, you’re also entered into the Green Challenge Trophy. The Men's NTS and Women's NTS competitions saw 19 teams participate, and as we celebrate the winners from Banbury, we look forward to even more teams competing in the Mixed NTS at Burton.

The Women’s Green Challenge Trophy competition was hotly contested, with four teams battling over top spot after Round 1. But Revolution Touch put in a whole-team effort in Round 2 and pulled clear of the field to claim the competition’s inaugural win. Across all teams who participated, Sally Faulkner, playing for Surrey Bisons was the women’s MGP (Most Green Player).

In the Men’s competition, Hot Custard dominated in Round 1. Northampton Dragons chased hard in Round 2, but Hot Custard held onto their lead to claim their first win of the Green Challenge Trophy. Will Tyrrell, playing for Hot Custard was the men’s MGP.

Revolution Touch (women) and Hot Custard (men) win EV2’s green socks for their teams. The socks are made from recycled polyester and organic cotton as part of EV2’s commitment to working with England Touch on making our kit more sustainable.

As we look forward to the MNTS starting this weekend, all teams are encouraged to get involved in the Green Challenge Trophy. Playing is easy - just get all your team-mates to complete the Green Challenge playbook, score green tries and help everyone make green choices across your competition day.

From car sharing or using public transport, to avoiding single use plastic bottles, and recycling your waste, every action helps the planet and helps your team.

In response to feedback from the Banbury competitions, we’ve been working with Burton RFC to ensure there are better recycling facilities at the pitches, so please look out for them and remember to use the right bin. Burton are already doing great things, such as heating their showers with ground-source heat pumps rather than gas boilers.

So, ahead of Round 1 of the Mixed NTS this weekend, get your team-mates involved in the Green Challenge Trophy and start to score your green tries by completing the Green Challenge playbook. You can fill it out any time from now until 6pm on your competition day. The winning team will be the one that scores the most green tries across the three rounds, so get involved to be in with a chance of winning.
