Galaxy add European club crown to trophy cabinet

Galaxy London added the European Club Championships title to their 2022 list of trophies in Spain this weekend.

Galaxy pipped Nottingham to the title, the two teams dominating their pools and then the knockout stages over the course of the tournament.

Galaxy’s Saturday could not have been better, with wins over Berlin, Utrecht, Sofia, Vallecas and Verona, 46 tries scored and just the six conceded.

Meanwhile Nottingham were not far behind, recording comfortable wins over Tigers Guernsey and Steibock’s in the morning. The afternoon was more competitive, Italy’s Scambio di Lingue pushing the Hoods in a 6-4 scoreline and Six Pack asking plenty of questions, too.

Six Pack were then seen off by Galaxy in the quarter finals, but Nottingham had to show their mettle against Berlin, a 7-6 win putting them into a semi-final against France’s Free Touch, 12-9 the final result.

Galaxy’s semi-final was against Brianza ToucherZ, the Italians being overcome 11-7.

And so to the final.

Galaxy opened up in the best possible fashion, Josh Henderson crossing with 20 seconds on the clock. But Nottingham replied in their first attack, and this exchange set the tone for the contest.

Four-all at half-time, the final was proving every bit as competitive as the National Touch Series had been earlier in the year. This became 6-6 with fewer than four minutes played in the second half, but at the game ticked into its final 10 minutes Galaxy had extended their lead to two tries, and while Nottingham pulled one try back with just over two minutes to play Galaxy saw out the clock to take home the trophy.
