Save the date – Pride in Touch 2022 and Charity World Record attempt
There are a couple of notable events to get into your diary later in 2022.
Pride in Touch 2022
Following an incredibly successful inaugural event last summer, Pride in Touch heads to Manchester on Saturday, June 25th, where it will be hosted by Manchester Village Spartans Touch.
Pride in Touch was co-founded by England Touch internationals Tom Hall and Nick Heath, to promote LGBTQ+ inclusion in the sport and remove barriers to participation through education, training and increased visibility across the community.
Pride in Touch 2022 will be expanded to a minimum of 12 teams, and while registration is not yet open you can follow their Instagram feed for more information!
Charity Beach Touch Rugby World Record attempt
Sandbaggers Beach Touch Rugby, which has been playing on Sandbanks beach since 2008, is looking at both setting a World Record and raising cash for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation in the process.
During the 2021 season one of the Sandbaggers players and a father of three, Andrew Vaughton, was given the devastating diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease:
“MND turned my whole world and that of my family upside down. The Sandbaggers gave me a space to feel normal, helped me navigate through some very dark times and finally find my old self again.
“I will never forget the support and love from the group during those early days from diagnosis. With the support of everyone in Sandbaggers we have looked at ways of raising awareness and much needed money to support research and care around MND. This is why we came up with the idea of the World record attempt.”
They will be looking to have a continuous game of Beach Touch Rugby for 33 hours and 33 minutes on Branksome Dene Beach in Poole, Dorset, across May 20th and 21st and need both players and referees along with event support to help achieve this magnificent ambition.
