Coffs Harbour to host 2015 FIT Touch World Cup

Coffs Harbour to host 2015 FIT Touch World Cup

Touch Football Australia (TFA) is pleased to announce that Coffs Harbour, NSW, will host the prestigious 2015 Federation of International Touch (FIT) Touch World Cup (#TWC2015). The world’s best Touch players will make their way to Coffs Harbour through Sydney in April 2015 to showcase their international skills, agility and speed in the 8th instalment of the FIT Touch World Cup (dates 29 April to 3 May 2015); 14 years after Australia last hosted the event. The FIT Touch World Cup event has previously been held in Australia twice: on the Gold Coast for the inaugural event in 1988 and Sydney in 1999.

With Touch Football enjoying sustained growth expanding its footprint and presence on the global stage, it is anticipated that this will be the biggest World Cup to date, with over 100 teams from up to 30 nations expected to take part in Touch Football’s flagship international event.

Speaking at the official announcement in Coffs Harbour, Mr Colm Maguire, Touch Football Australia

CEO, said that the decision to select Coffs Harbour as the venue was as much to do with its appeal as a vibrant regional, coastal centre and tourism destination as an elite sporting destination and venue.

“We are delighted to announce Coffs Harbour, NSW, as the host venue for the 2015 FIT Touch World Cup, and as the host nation, we conducted a very thorough Expression of Interest and assessment process in order to source suitable hosts for the World Cup and upcoming Touch Football events. TFA and the international body, the Federation of International Touch, have no doubt that Coffs Harbour will be an excellent host ensuring a successful Touch World Cup and showcasing future Touch Football Australia events.”

FIT President, Eric Acker, said, “I take this opportunity to congratulate Touch Football Australia for this huge undertaking and we look forward to meeting you all in Coffs Harbour where we will not only have the opportunity to play touch but to share our diverse cultures. On behalf of FIT, I am pleased to endorse the 2015 Touch World Cup. We are honoured to join Touch Football Australia in hosting this exciting event. Our sport has seen a huge growth in the last couple of years, especially in East Asia, Africa, Europe, Middle East and South Asia.  We can now count 56 registered members of FIT. Hence the 8th Touch World Cup will see the number of participants hugely increase.”

The TFA World Cup organising committee will shortly be confirming the various travel, logistics and tournament planning arrangements with the host country and competing countries. For all 2015 TWC news and information go to the TFA website – www.austouch.com.au.
