Lexie Williams shortlisted for UK Coaching award

Everyone at England Touch is delighted by the news that Lexie Williams has been shortlisted for UK Coaching’s 2022 Young Coach of the Year Award.

The Awards – regarded as the most prestigious within the coaching community – has for the past 25 years been a celebration of the tremendous impact of great coaches and great coaching – from delivering high quality technical coaching and improving physical capabilities, to supporting people holistically on their journey through sport and physical activity.

Lexie was chosen as a finalist by an expert judging panel for both rugby union and Touch, where she has shown her commitment time and again, including:

  • Women’s Open assistant coach at 2022 European Touch Championships
  • Head coach for SW Saxons Mixed Open at 2022 Nationals
  • Coaching Truro Trojans to their first ever appearance in a National Touch Series event
  • Set up the Cornwall Touch League

Lexie was an England Touch Regional Development Officer until earlier this October, when she stepped up to become the new South West Regional Lead. She has also completed two UK Coaching courses – TCP Sprint and Focus 4 – and is now studying for a third, the Horizon course.

“We’re all delighted for Lexie that she’s been shortlisted for this prestigious award,” says Sammie Phillips, England Touch General Manager and Head of Elite Performance. “She has been really committed to learn and then put lessons into practice, especially in Cornwall, where she has done an immense amount of work to grow our sport and introduce Touch to more and more people.

“Lexie has huge potential as a high performance coach and always goes the extra yard when it comes to improving her technical and tactical game understanding and seeking out opportunities to develop herself at regional and international level. She is a rising star within our high performance coaching pathway and we are very proud of her achievements to date and excited about where she will progress to.”

The awards ceremony will be held on 6th December at The Queens Hotel in Leeds.
